Selling Digital Products On eBay Is About To Get Harder…Or IS It?

Ok, so eBay are going to change the rules when it comes to selling digital items…what can you do about it?

Well firstly I’ll explain what a digital item is and how we have been able to sell them on eBay to date.

A digital item is basically anything that can be sent online as an attachment or downloaded from a web page. The usual format is either a PDF file for e-books or an MP3 file for audio books or recordings. We’ve been selling digital e-books on eBay as a lead generator for other higher priced products and to build up our client database.

The way we’ve been selling the e-books is using the “Buy It Now” format and also as a new Classified Ad. Our results from this of course vary and the strategy has not been for us to sell heaps of them, but rather to gain further brand awareness in the market place.

From March the 31st you will no longer be able to sell digital items on eBay in the standard auction format. Instead you will have to list your digital items as a Classified Ad and it must go under the eBay selling category of…Everything Else > Information Products > etc.

So how do we get around this and turn the new policy into a positive? I’m glad you asked ;-)

When it comes to selling information online it’s been customary for people to want to sell the digital items and make a profit for pretty much no product cost. But for the savvy information seller, you can actually make more money by selling physical products. For example you can sell a 90 page e-book for lets say $67. If you have the e-book printed, package it in a manual and maybe include a CD with the audio of the e-book, you could possibly sell the product for around $197 or $297.

All this is dependant on the information contained in the new ‘manual’ and the target market you are trying to sell into. Over the next week we will be changing our digital offer in eBay and transfer the e-book onto a CD which we will package up with a few other bonuses. The eBay ID we use to sell information is biddingbuzz and you’ll be able to see what we are doing there and the coming changes we will be making.

When ever the rules are changed ask yourself how can you turn that into a positive and how can you adapt what you do to suit the new policy rules? Being successful in business is all about being fluid and being able to adapt to the ever changing landscape. Because one thing is for certain and that is that change is always going to happen. Whether we like it or not.

Learn to be fluid, think outside the square and focus on asking yourself…”How can I?

Have a great eBay week.

Why Less Work Can Be More Sales When It Comes To eBay…

Whether you’re just setting up your sellers account on eBay, or have been selling on eBay for years, you’ll notice that not everything always goes according to plan.

Let’s face it, between careers, kids, and our day to day activities, it’s not hard for ‘life’ to just get in the way and before you know it, another week, month and year has gone by!

But that’s why planning for your business and re-accessing your business regularly can be vital to ensure that you’re constantly moving forward.

It’s human nature to put off jobs that seem too hard or too big and that’s why you need to get systems, goals and structure in place.

Unless you’re as strict as us with your time, you may find yourself spending less and less time researching and listing each week and more time getting side tracked refreshing your emails, double checking your listings, cleaning the house etc etc……

This is where you need to dedicate certain hours and days to eBay. Just like you’d turn up to your job each day at a certain time, you need to set aside hours and days and stick to them…… That’s if you want to this to be a real business.

Give yourself daily and weekly goals that are more achievable, you may decide to do photo’s one day, research another day, but remember to stay focused, write your goals down and you’ll reach them with the least amount of effort!

By creating simple systems and goals each week, you’ll be more productive and enjoy the sales and research process.

Spend the extra time setting your systems and templates up, right from the beginning and you’ll be able to create a business that’s automated and does the work for you!

If you need any advise on any aspect of your eBay business including researching, listings, automation, or you just need moral support and help, don’t forget that Bidding Buzz has now been launched!

Gaining Momentum In Your eBay Business Is Critical

Today I want to talk about getting momentum in your eBay business and what it will mean for you in the long run.

Right now I happen to be reading a newly released business book by my business hero ‘Donald Trump.’ It’s called ‘Think Big And Kick Ass. In Business and Life. Quite frankly…I would say that Donald is the person I most admire in the world of business. He knows what he wants and he goes after it with relentless drive,
effort and enthusiasm. Talk about disciplined!

Anyway, I got to chapter 7 which is all about the importance of getting momentum in business and life if you want to be successful and make money. I loved the chapter so much I want to share some of his points with you now because if YOU want to be successful and kick ass in the eBay world, you’ll want to know these top tips thatDonald shares. ( The following words are quoted from his book.)

To be a big success in any field you need to build momentum. Momentum is all about energy and timing. When you start anything new, you have no momentum. That is when things are hard. People are not calling you. You do not seem to be getting anywhere, but if you keep at it and keep working toward your goals on day at a time, pretty soon you get into the flow of people and events.

You get contacts, you gain credibility, you build a track record of success, and then things get much easier. Why? Because you have momentum, but do not take momentum for granted. If you lose momentum, all your success ends, and things get much more difficult. It is dangerous to do anything when you have lost your momentum. Your timing is off, and people and events are no longer in your favor. So what out and never lose your momentum.

His key points to this statement were as follows. By the way…Matt and I agree whole heartedly with every one of them and so should you.

1. With every action you take and every task you complete you are building momentum.
2. When momentum reaches a critical mass, everybody is on ready alert and has you on their radar screens.
3. When people see momentum, they want to be part of it.
4. To get momentum, focus on a specific goal with passion and intensity.
5. Specialized knowledge builds momentum.
6. To keep momentum, keep challenging yourself.
7. Remember to keep going. If you stop, your momentum will stop.
8. Never give up on yourself.
9. When you reach the top, keep your momentum rolling by giving back to society.

How powerful is that ?

I’ve no doubt you understand the importance of getting momentum with your eBay business and creating the exact type of business you want. If you don’t yet have momentum, use these steps as your guide and if you ever feel the road is tough, remember there are others on it with you and you’re never alone.

Till next time, keep the momentum up by listing stuff to sell on eBay, contacting suppliers and always keeping your eyes and ears wide open for new opportunity.

Helping You Become Cash and Time Rich with eBay.

What I love The Best.

Direct from Amanda's Desk:

I often get asked what I most love about my eBay business and why?

My answer’s always the same and although it’s hard to pick one thing, I’d have to say ‘giving outstanding customer service’ is my absolute favorite.

Even though it comes naturally to me because I’m a people person anyway, I also understand and nurture the real value that it brings me in many other ways.

Let me explain.

Have you ever bought something on eBay and even after you’ve paid for the item, you never hear a word from the seller? You have no idea when the item is going to be sent to you, plus you haven’t a clue when or if it’s going to turn up.

After a week or so goes by, still you don’t hear a peep from the seller.

How does this make you feel inside?

Pissed off? Angry? Worried? Anxious? Embarrassed that you may have been taken for a ride? Uncertain? Ignored? Frustrated?

All the above?

I know how it feels don’t worry. And these are the exact reasons I stay in touch with my customers every step of the way. They hear from me immediately after they’ve purchased from me, they hear from me once payment is cleared, then they get an email with tracking numbers on it and even the estimated time of arrival for their parcel!

How do you think this makes them feel?

Appreciated. Worthwhile. Important. Special. Happy. More forgiving if there’s a hiccup during the process. Smart. In Control. Confident. Assured. Excited. Relaxed.

In other words, they start spreading the good word of how great you and your business is. This brings more and more friends to see what you do and they buy from you too.

I even put them onto my newsletter BEFORE their parcel arrives.

They actually get a minimum of 3-5 points of contact from me during this whole process.

My promise is that I will ship within 24hrs of cleared payment. My customers especially love this and I deliver on that promise 100%.

My whole business is based on giving the best service out of any seller in my chosen categories. You’d be blown away at the repeat business and referral business I get because of it.

You may think I’m pedantic and overboard, but let me assure you, it brings me many, many more sales than what I’d otherwise get.

If you have an eBay business or you’re thinking of starting one, make sure customer service is your number one priority over anything else. The money will come, don’t you worry.
